If you rent a car in Italy, you need an international driving permit<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n Motor cycles, private cars and vans\u00a0whose maximum permitted\u00a0weight does not exceed 3.5 tons\u00a0must display a\u00a0vignette<\/a>\u00a0to use all Slovenian motorways\u00a0and those express roads managed and maintained by the toll road operator.<\/em><\/p>\n More information on the\u00a0DARS website\u00a0<\/a>(email:\u00a0cuc@dars.si<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n You can purchase vignettes at\u00a0all petrol stations in Slovenia\u00a0and in\u00a0neighbouring countries\u00a0as well as at branches of national and foreign automobile clubs, at post offices in Slovenia and at some kiosks. For more information there is a\u00a0list of sales points<\/a>.\u00a0 Cost is 7.50 euros per week.\u00a0\u00a0Do not risk driving on the motorways without the vignette sticker, since the\u00a0penalties are severe. The penalty for driving on a motorway without a valid vignette or without paying the toll is a fine of\u00a0EUR 300 to 800.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Taxis are readily available in Slovenia.\u00a0 Always ask for rates ahead of time.<\/p>\n Trains are available in Slovenia but only limited service to major cities.\u00a0 Unfortunately,\u00a0Portoro\u017e does not have train service.<\/p>\n Business casual for meetings.<\/p>\n Banks are usually open from 9:00 to 17:00 during the week, some close for an hour at lunch.\u00a0 ATMs\u00a0\u2013 You can withdraw cash 24 hours a day from most of the ATMs around Slovenia using the MasterCard, Visa, Maestro, Cirrus and Visa Electron Plus cards. There is an exceptionally high number of ATMs in Slovenia. In addition to cash withdrawals, many of them offer other types of services.<\/p>\n Museums are open from 9 or 10 and close at 17:00 or 18:00 but some are closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n Shops are usually open from 7 to 9 until 19:00 to 21:00 Monday to Friday; Saturday closing between 13:00 to 15:00; Sundays normally only large shopping centers will be open from 9:00 to 13:00.\u00a0 The opening hours of shops are not strictly defined. There are 24 hour grocery stores in major cities. Certain essentials are available 24 hours a day at major petrol stations as well.<\/p>\n With its sub-Mediterranean climate, Portoro\u017e is considered to be in one of the warmest spots in Slovenia. It has many sunny days. The yearly average sunshine combines 2346 hours. Other phones must be set to roaming to work, but be wary of roaming charges. You can buy prepaid SIM cards if your phone accepts them.
