SWST 46th Annual Meeting
June 22, 2003
Bellevue, WA

The 2003 SWST Annual Meeting took place on Sunday, June 22, 2003 in Bellevue, Washington, in the Fairweather Ballroom at the DoubleTree Hotel-Bellevue.

The technical session, titled "Wood Science and Technology in the BioBased Economy", was held from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.

An Awards Presentation took place from 11:00 am to 11:45 am. Awards which were presented:

  1. Distinguished Service Award - James L. Bowyer

  2. George G. Marra Award for Excellence in Writing

    • Muszynski, Lech, Wang, Fenghu, and Shaler, Steven M., "Short-term creep tests on phenol-resorcinol-formaldehyde (PRF) resin undergoing moisture content changes, Volume 34(4): 612-624 -- First Place

    • Lang, Elemer M.; Bejo, Laszlo; Szalai, Jozsef; Kovacs, Zsolt; and Anderson, R. Bruce, "Orthotropic strength and elasticity of hardwoods in relation to composite manufacture. Part II. Orthotropy of compression strength and elasticity", Volume 34(2): 350-365 -- Second Place

  3. Student Poster Competition Winners - Judges for the competition were: Dan Dolan, Steve Shook, Eva Haviarova, and Qinglin Wu.

Joint Society of Wood Science and Technology/Forest Products Society events were as follows:

  • Plenary Sessions from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

  • Technical Forum and Student Posters from 4:00 to 5:30

  • Joint SWST/FPS Host Reception from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

A new Monday morning session entitled "Wood Characterization: Principles and Applications", was held starting with coffee at 7:30 a.m. on June 23 in the Factoria Room at the DoubleTree Hotel Bellevue, concluded by 11:30 a.m.
