One PhD position is available for a collaborative research between the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts and Institute of Genomics, Biocomputing and Biotechnology at Mississippi State University. The successful candidate will be involved in a highly multidisciplinary research and will receive training in entomology, wood preservation, genomics, and biocomputing, while studying the effect of wood chemical treatment on metagenome of subterranean termite. The results of this study are expected to be beneficial for understanding the mechanism of wood degradation by termites and improvement of current and development of novel protection means, but it can also be geared toward mining of enzymes to further facilitate wood conversion to energy and value-added products.
The candidate must:
- Possess an undergraduate/Master’s degree relevant to the topic of the study
- Previously attained and maintained exceptional academic standing (min GPA 3.0 on 4.0 scale basis)
- Have a TOEFL score of 79 iBT or IELTS score of 6.5 or better (students with non-English credentials only)
- Be adaptive to multi-disciplinary research work requirements
- Be an excellent team-player
The successful candidate will be funded in the amount of US $25,000 per year for the period of 3 years plus tuition, fees and insurance.
